No Games

My favourite childhood memories are those of Sunday afternoons spent with my parents and siblings, playing all sorts of games. Even nowadays, I love playing cards and many other games with my friends. Playing games can help to get focussed or just to relax, and I´m playing games almost daily.

But then there´s real life, and that´s quite another thing for me. Especially when it comes to love, I don´t play any games - what you see is what you get, and what I say is what I mean. I´ve learned the hard way that this is not normal, and it´s not what people expect. There have been men who expected that I´d play games with them only because other women had done that before, and I wasn´t able to make them believe that I don´t.

So here´s my very personal card for this week´s Sunday Postcard Art challenge themed "Games", using a gelli plate transfer, a scan from my own stuff and words from (sadly retired) Tumble Fish Studio.

I love your art piece. And I can relate to your blog post. I think both genders' expectations of others might be somewhat biased by past experiences. But some people take it to the extreme where they can't believe someone new isn't like those who preceded them. It sounds like you've met men like that. It sort of reminds me of a man I once worked with. He never said much to me, and was aloof while other men were friendly toward me. It took time, but eventually the ice thawed. I vaguely recall he explained to me something along the lines of he didn't take people at face value, he watched them over time, to see if they were genuine (or frauds), and he determined I was who I seemed to be.

Marion, I love your card this week, and the personal story you shared on the content. I think many of us can relate - I know I can! I also really like your unique take on the theme - that was exactly what I was hoping some people would do. Thanks so much for playing this week - I am always excited to see what you create each week.

Marion, I absolutely L-O-V-E your postcard! From an artful perspective, your theme is relevant, your composition interesting, and the execution is perfect. But I do not love your postcard for any one or even all of these reasons. I love your post card because it is a reflection of you! This is the best gift that an artist can give a viewer! Thank you for sharing this bit of insight into 'Who is Marion?" Like the others whose comments have preceded mine, I have been there, I have done that. Thank you for sharing! Hugs, Kay

What a special postcard, Marion. My family always played games at family gatherings. It's a pleasure that's sort of fallen by the wayside, and I miss it. We need to start a game revolution!
